Of late there has been an increase in demand for more robust van conversions that incorporate racking or garages for boards, bikes and even fold up boats.  Utilising our boat building background Firehouse is ideally suited to combining the luxury of a full conversion with the resilience of a commercial core.  We can reinforce areas within the build to permit bike pods and other sports equipment.

Other personal tweaks could include draining waterproof garages and board racks as well as wetsuit hanging lockers and external showers. But above all, we understand that all of your toys simply must fit in!

Steve’s Renault Trafic Surf Conversion

We were asked to build this great 4 berth (2 Adults and 2 small children) conversion that could undertake both family trips abroad and local trips to the beach.

The ¾ rock and roll bed not only drops to form a comfortable double, but will create a `baby berth`, a small pipe-cot, alongside Mum and Dad. There is a second pipe-cot berth across the driver`s seat for a slightly older little one.

The rock and roll bed has storage lockers underneath that will open fully to permit the all important board storage for either  long board , S.U.P or windsurfer, this is the full length of the van and can be is accessed via the back door. Additional to this there is even more board storage down the side panels of the van as folding load liner eyes have also been fitted.

Rick’s Windsurf Conversion

Rick approached us for a basic conversion, however, time was against us as he already had a ferry booked and we had a busy schedule. So we pulled out all the stops, worked evenings and weekend to make sure the van was on the ferry with Rick and all his kit

Rick needed the maximum amount of space available to take his kit to Southern Spain for the windy season. Furthermore, the van had to double as a mobile office capable of running Wi-Fi and laptops, to keep tabs on business back in the U.K.

 After extensive insulation we installed an epoxy sealed ply-floor and added Altro hard wearing safety floor.  The floor was edge sealed to allow the van to be hosed out to keep sand and salt at bay. Both the back and roof of the van were lined and insulated in preparation for Iwan also known as `The wood Butcherer` to work his magic and install a bed and racking for the watersports kit. We also fitted an awning to special roof-mount brackets that allow a roof rack to be fitted for Kayaks

To increase the useable space inside the van we fitted seat swivels and to increase natural light and to aid ventilation a pair of roof lights were fitted.

After a few weeks `shake down` in the Cornish rain, the van was ready for Europe and headed out to find the Spanish sun.

A Few Windows

Seb’s VW T5 Transporter

Seb brought his Volkswagen T5 to us for conversion on a recommendation. Our brief was to transform this builders van into an insulated shell ready for full conversion at a later date. Along with a domestic battery system, we insulated and lined the van. We have teamed up with Smart Bed to have a ¾ leather rock and roll bed installed in the imminent future.

We were also tasked with installation of some spectacular L.E.D. lighting behind the headlining panels to give the van a bit of individuality.
